Hyannis Football Continues Season Into October
The Hyannis Longhorns football team came into the month of September after a tough loss to the Sandhills Valley Mavericks. It didn’t take long for a turnaround though, as the Longhorns took on the South Loup Bobcats the next Friday. In the first half, South Loup jumped out to a 12-0 lead after two quick touchdowns, but Hyannis rallied in the second half, scoring two touchdowns and making some key defensive stops to earn the 14-12 victory, despite a season ending injury to star running back Wyatt Phillips.
The next week, the Longhorns faced a tough task. They traveled to Thedford to meet with the undefeated Sandhills Thedford Knights. The Longhorns played hard but were defeated 68-0. The next week they played Leyton, another undefeated team at homecoming, and unfortunately lost to the Warriors 24 to 61. On Friday, September 25, Hyannis took on arch-rival Mullen High School in a Friday Night contest. The Longhorns fell to the Broncos early, but rallied in the second half to hold them to 12 second half points, and finished with a score of 12 to 51. As the Longhorns enter the final month of their season, we’ll push hard for a playoff spot, and finish the year on a good note.
